BREAKFAST will certainly be the most important meal of the day in Shellharbour tomorrow.

Consuming an enormous 600kg of sausages, 6000 slices of bread, 4500 eggs, 275 boxes of cereal and 500 litres of juice, Shellharbour residents will be packing their appetites for the region's Australia Day celebrations this weekend.

Shellharbour Mayor David Hamilton said the early breakfast crowd was expected to swell to 15,000 by the end of the day with plenty of activities to entertain the diverse community.

"It's a great family fun day," he said.

"I feel it's very important in Shellharbour because we're a very multicultural area.

"It's a chance for the community to really get together and celebrate living in Australia."

The Kiama Australia Day festivities, with events also being held in Gerringong and Jamberoo, are always a popular way for families to celebrate the day.

Mayor of Kiama Sandra McCarthy said residents embraced the message behind the Australia Day celebrations and congratulated organisers for their dedication to the event.

"The day's activities are a great opportunity to join in the celebration of our national character and to rejoice in a culture that values a fair go for all and an inclusive sense of community," she said.

"The busy program of festivities in the Kiama municipality is a tribute to the numerous community groups who, together with council have organised a wide range of Australia Day events."

The region's evening concert will take place in Jamberoo this year, with organisers encouraging visitors to bring the family and a picnic blanket to Kevin Walsh Oval for the popular display of local talent.

The day will be capped off with a fireworks display from Kiama Showground at 9pm, marking the end of the action-packed celebrations.
