SHELLHARBOUR City will mark Australia Day with the annual Breakfast by the Lake at Reddall Reserve, Lake Illawarra.

The celebrations will begin with an address from Shellharbour's 2009 Australia Day ambassador, writer Bruce Elder. Entry is free, with the $3 breakfast raising money for local charities.

The breakfast begins at 7am, with the citizen of the year awards starting at 8am and the citizenship ceremony at 8.30am.

Kiama council will also hold Australia Day breakfasts at Kiama, Kiama Downs, Jamberoo and Gerringong. Kiama's 2009 ambassador is environmental activist Jack Mundey.

The Australia Day awards and citizenship ceremony will take place at Jamberoo School of Arts from 5pm.

In the Shoalhaven, celebrations will be held at Nowra Showground between 8am and 2pm, with an awards ceremony at 9.30am.
